Choosing a color palette for your wedding creates a unifying design element — but it has the potential to convey much more. “Color has a profound effect on mood,” says Marie Danielle Vil-Young, a wedding planner and founder of New York-based À Votre Service Events. “Each color affects guests in a different way,” she says. So whether you choose understated or dramatic, consider color your way to add magical spark to this special day.

"Neon blue captures the electric energy and excitement of downtown LA's artsy crowd,” says Greg Meyers, wedding expert at The Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE, where sapphire is the current “it” color. Bring more dimension to the palette by including varying shades of blue. And reflect a sassy, sophisticated state of mind with a signature cocktail — such as this eLActric blue martini — that resonates your chosen hue through and through.

At The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove, Miami, wedding planners use lavender-tinted lighting to accent a classic white backdrop to stunning effect. Strands of crystals draped from the chandelier, and gold and silver flatware, capture glints of the color, says Jeysa Plana, the property's wedding specialist. Floral flourishes, such as those in edible form on these lavender-iced petit fours, add subtle moments of intrigue.

Long the time-honored choice for weddings in Western cultures, white is newly trendy in Asia. At The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai's younger generations seeking an alternative to the traditional red clamor for all-white ceremonies. But whether true white, off-white or ivory, a monochromatic palette demands a little “oomph,” relying on texture — as with this wedding cake — to make what’s classic beautifully contemporary.
