Muscat, Oman’s capital, combines the pleasures of ocean and land, history and the modern-day. Wadi Bani Khalid is famous for its natural beauty and popular with both tourists and locals. (Photographs by Jasper James) Muscat‘s Grand Mosque, which can accommodate 20,000 worshippers, is also known for its beautiful rugs and chandeliers. With its endless miles of undulating dunes, shifting in color from coffee to peach to dusty pink, the desert of Ramlat al-Wahiba is as austere as it is captivating to those who visit.
