The festivities on the streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife start on the Friday before Carnival with an opening parade, which reaches its height during the night when thousands of people in fancy dresses dance until the early hours of the next day. The party continues night after night until Ash Wednesday. That day, people of Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrate the "entierro de la sardina" (burial of the sardine), and with this event the carnival is officially over. However, the party starts up again the following weekend, known as the weekend of the piñata.

The festival has two parts: the official Carnival, and the Carnival on the street. The official carnival has more than a hundred groups, including “murgas”, “comparsas”, “rondallas” and other musical groups.Thousands of people come each day to the streets to participate, most of whom wear a disguise in accordance with Carnival tradition.

This festivity is done in a district called Los Realejos and it is famous because during this time, the village is covered by over 300 crosses made by the locals. A firework competition between two main streets takes place during almost three hours what makes this show the most amazing firework show in the Islands.

The Regional Exhibition of Flowers, Plants and Traditional Handicraft of the Canary Islands take place the first week of May at Garcia Sanabria park, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is a wonderful opportunity to discover our tropical vegetation and traditional pastries.

During the month of June, the most traditional fest in the island takes place. This celebration is called Corpus Christi and it is well known for the carpets made by the locals with flower petals and colored sand. The carpets represent religious scenes.

The carpets in La Orotava are the most relevant in Tenerife, and biggest one is done in the Town Hall Square with a surface of almost 2000 sqm.

This celebration take place during summer time in different parts of the island. The most important is the one that takes place in Puerto de la Cruz, consisting on worshiping the virgin of “El Camen”.

The fishermen carry the virgin from the chapel to the harbour to put it on board of a fishing boat, after this the virgin is sailed along the coast.

Every August the village of Candelaria organizes a party in honor to The Virgin of Candelaria who is the patron saint of the Canary Islands. During the night many pilgrims from all over the Island walk from their places to Candelaria to pray for the Virgin.

From May to December the aim of the Wine Bus is going to be teaching all those interested in this subject, the techniques of winemaking, visit the vineyards, landscapes, natural and cultural heritage of the area, and tasting wines from the wineries of the route. The seven municipalities included in the tours are Tegueste, La Laguna, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria and Santa Ursula.

These fiestas of the patron saint of the coastal town of Bajamar include a range of events throughout the month including a very popular procession. There is also an outstanding marine firework display.
