Chef Litherland is a native of Auckland in northern New Zealand, located in the semi-tropical climate zone. The region is known for rich harvests including blueberries, avocados and red pineapples as well as wineries with vineyards of heat-loving pinot gris, chardonnay, syrah and merlot. At a young age, Chef Litherland began cooking alongside his mother, and became acutely attuned to selecting produce at the moment of its perfect ripeness and best flavors.


He began his career at age 11 roasting and carving lamb and other New Zealand specialties for a local catering company. “From age 11 on, I had no desire to do anything but cook,” he says. “Some kids wanted to be doctors; I wanted to be a chef.” Chef Litherland left school at 16 to attend Auckland Technical Institute, where he earned his culinary degree at age 20.

Brian White
Atlanta-native Brian chooses the wines poured throughout the hotel, with special emphasis on the highly-awarded wine cellar in Atlanta Grill to assure superbly paired selections for the menus created by Chef Brian Jones. He is a creative and talented sommelier, as evidenced by the list of wines-by-the-glass he has curated for Lumen, the hotel's lobby bar, which brims with inspired choices. Mr. White developed an expertise and passion for wines over a career spanning 20 years in hospitality, including Maitre'd at the formal dining room at Atlanta's historic members-only Capital City Club. He continues to work toward certification by the Court of Master Sommeliers, and will sit for the Advanced Level exam in the near future.
