Help to Save the Sea Turtles
Thursday, June 20, 2013
Endearing and enduring, sea turtles have survived as a species for more than 100 million years of evolutionary and global change — yet their survival is threatened. Before 1980 there was no documented sea turtle activity in Miami-Dade County. Under the protection of the Park and Recreation Department's Sea Turtle Conservation Program there are now almost 7,000 documented nests which have resulted in the release of over 550,300 hatchlings. In an effort to continue the conservation efforts, guests have the opportunity to learn about sea turtles from expert Bill Ahern (also known as Turtle Bill) and assist in painting stakes that will be used during sea turtle season to mark and protect the nests.

The program is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is complimentary.
