The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale invites guests to experience a series of complimentary voluntourism activities at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park throughout the year including an eco-tour through a tropical paradise with a half-day excursion to include a guided walk through two of the four distinct ecosystems within the park, and an environmentally-beneficial experience to continue the preservation of the area’s tropical beauty.

Armed with a hand shovel, rake, gloves and garden shears, guests extract exotic plants that have encroached the area, impeding native plants from surviving, resulting in a long-lasting positive, environmental impact. Later, native and exotic plants, fossilized animals and other key elements of the habitat’s natural ecosystems are presented by a local park ranger, creating awareness and promoting an in-depth understanding of “The Real Florida.” Before the program concludes, guests embark on a ranger-guided walk through the Tropical Hardwood Hammock trail, a rare ecosystem, offering a glimpse of the area’s original vegetation when inhabited by the Tequesta Indians.

Available to hotel guests only and limited to groups of twenty, the complimentary excursion includes round-trip transportation from The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, eco-tour and preservation project.
