Opened in 1992 by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, the Centre houses the Permanent Collection of the National Museum and contains the very best of Spain's modern art movement including Salvador Dali, among many others.

The origin of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection goes back to the early 20th century, when the grandfather of the Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza started a small collection of art by acquiring various sculptures by Rodin. Since then the collection has grown into one of the most famous in the world.
