Specialty Coffee The Original Irish Coffee Jameson Irish Whiskey, Coffee, Brown Sugar, Heavy Cream €9.50 Irish Coffee was concieved by bartender Joe Sheridan at Shannon Airport, Ireland. Visitors on their travels would often approach the small bar shivering and ask for something to take off the chill. The blend of Irish whiskey, steaming hot coffee topped with cool cream would hit the spot. In 1952 Stanton Delaplane, an international travel writer, discovered this tipple and relayed it home to Jack Koeppler, bartender at the Buena Vista in San Francisco. Together they attempted to recreate the wonderful drink but to little success. The cool cream float kept sinking. Eventually Jack Koeppler visited the Airport at Shannon to learn from the drink's creator, and the rest is history.
