Tucked peacefully in the Atlantic Ocean between the Eastern U.S. seaboard and Hispanola, there lies an archipelago of more than 700 islands and 2,000 cays known collectively as the Bahamas. Among the most remote and pristine of these is the tropical jewel, Rose Island.
When famed explorer Christopher Columbus made landfall in the western Bahamas in 1492, it is believed that the indigenous Lucayan Indians had already been there for centuries. By the 1800’s the islands were a Crown colony of England and settlers began arriving great numbers.
Today, adventure and leisure seekers still convene upon the Bahamas, whose name means “shallow sea” in Spanish, to enjoy its pristine beaches, exceptional diving and snorkeling and easy tropical ambience.
