Head Chef Melissa Lee and the Ritz-Carlton culinary team are preparing a gastronomic feast for Mother’s Day with free- flowing champagne, a Raw Bar of delicacies from the sea, Chef-carved Prime Rib, Fennel-Glazed Salmon, Black Quinoa, prepared-to-order Sushi, Vanilla-Chocolate Hazelnut Cake, Coconut Macaroons, Pistachio Pot de Crème and warm Rhubarb and Strawberry Cobbler. Doing good by eating well is the mission of Executive Chef Melissa Lee’s Enliven the Senses Dinners at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. Each of these limited-seating events benefits a local charity and features a tantalizing menu of entrees, cocktails and desserts. The menu is designed by Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis Executive Chef Melissa Lee and Executive Pastry Chef Nathaniel Reid around locally-sourced ingredients or using a local, specialty purveyor from the area.

The Aroma of Coffee is the motif of the dinner featuring the nationally-recognized Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Company. Enlightened diners may enjoy:

Papua New Guinea Baroida Coffee Glazed Pork Belly,
Seared Scallops, Pain d'epices, Corn Puree, Citrus

In addition to these scrumptious offerings, Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Company Executive Chef Frank Mcginty will pour rare tastings of Kaldi’s specialty coffees not offered to the general public. A portion of the proceeds from this dinner benefit for The Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis which provides housing for families who have seriously ill children being treated at area hospitals and other local medical facilities.

The tradition of Afternoon Tea - a mid-day refreshment, complete with small cakes, assorted sweets, bread and butter sandwiches, and fine tea - remains relatively unchanged since its origin in the 19th century. Some credit the Duchess of Bedford (1783-1857), a lady in waiting of Queen Victoria, as the one who introduced the ritual of Afternoon Tea to London by inviting friends to join her for “tea and a walking in the fields.” This delightfully social and gourmand pastime sparked a trend that has continued to this day and will be your family’s new tradition.

We invite you to walk in the shoes of the Duchess of Bedford and friends and join us every Saturday in May from noon until 3 p.m. for Ritz-Carlton Executive Pastry Chef Nathaniel Reid’s interpretation of this genteel ritual.
