Part of the Lesser Antilles, Saint Lucia is an island nation is the eastern Caribbean on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. The island is more mountainous than many other Caribbean islands, and even has the world’s only drive-in volcano.
Saint Lucia was first visited by European in 1500 and colonized by France 160 years later. England then took control of the island until it became part of the Federation of the West Indies in the 1950s. Saint Lucia became a complete independent state in 1979.Modern day Saint Lucia depends strongly on tourism for income, second only to bananas.
The tropical island is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and resorts in the Caribbean. The high season for tourism is during the dry season from January – April. Some of the main attractions include Botanical Gardens, rainforests and Pigeon National Park. Known as the Helen of the West, Saint Lucia is a beautiful paradise that any visitor will surely fall in love with.
