BOSTON, Mass. – July 22, 2014 – Inspired by Boston Children's Museum's upcoming My Sky exhibition [opening July 26th], The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common is delighted to offer aspiring young astronomers an overnight suite package that takes them "To The Moon and Back." Just as the Museum's exhibition focuses on the Sun, Moon and stars above us, The Ritz-Carlton is encouraging families who reserve this package to look up at the sky and to appreciate and understand the fundamentals of astronomy. The package is also an extension of Ritz Kids, an engaging and immersive experience that builds upon the adventures of travel that young children and their families will treasure. Guided by playfulness and a sense of wonder, Ritz Kids is designed to delight with four key pillars of discovery including Water, Land, Environmental Responsibility and Culture. “To The Moon and Back” encourages exploration and discovery of Land and Sky and fosters interaction with the world in which young children live.

The "To The Moon and Back" package will engage families the moment they arrive at the hotel, where young stargazers can follow the Sun, Moon and stars via a “constellation map” to a recently-renovated luxury park view suite on the hotel’s eleventh floor, where a cosmic experience awaits.

As guests enter the suite, they can't help but look out and up as they gaze upon the Boston Common, Public Garden and, of course, the skies above, with uninterrupted views. So begins an exciting family stay, an immersive experience much like the My Sky exhibition at Boston Children's Museum. Right away, families will see stunning satellite images of the Sun being broadcast on the suite’s high-definition televisions. A telescope in the suite encourages celestial exploration, day or night, and a remote-control moon light illuminates the suite during the evening with all 12 Moon phases. A pop-tent complete with sleeping bags and lanterns lets young children sleep "under a starry night sky" projected on the suite's ceiling in changing, glowing constellations. Families are encouraged to identify certain constellations, or even discover their own shapes as they gaze upon the ceilings throughout the entire suite.

Lounging by the suite’s ‘plush’ campfire adjacent to the tent, looking up at the stars and exploring the skies is a relaxing and bonding experience, one that families can recreate in their own backyard. Olivia Brown, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common and mother of two says this is “exactly our intent with this family-friendly experience. We hope families will gather in the living area of our suite and we want them looking up and out at the skies. This is the sort of fun I love to create with my own family.” She adds: “Our park view suite couldn’t be more conducive to this type of getaway, with large impressive windows that will ‘wow’ young guests. We want families engaged over conversation, creativity and amazement. This exciting collaboration with Boston Children’s Museum is allowing us to connect families in a unique manner that’s inspired by our Ritz Kids discovery program.”

The "To The Moon and Back” experience includes the following amenities:

  • Overnight accommodations in a luxury park view suite [for 2 adults and 2 children]; suite offers uninterrupted views of the sky and beyond
