BOSTON, Mass. - April 14, 2014 - The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common is pleased to announce that Ms. Olivia C. Brown has accepted the position of General Manager for The Ritz-Carlton and The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, effective April 14, 2014.

Ms. Brown brings a vast amount of diverse experience to this role and has been a leader in the hospitality industry for more than 25 years. Most recently, Brown served as the General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia and The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton. In this role, she was responsible for the overall operation of the award-winning, 299-room hotel and 270 residences as well as the growth and advancement of the hotel’s Ladies and Gentlemen, overall hotel profitability, owner relations and guest/owner satisfaction.

Prior to managing The Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia, Brown served as hotel manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead in Atlanta, GA, and was interim General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester in White Plains, NY. In 2011, she was named “Global General Manager of The Year” for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.

Brown began her career after receiving a degree in hospitality and tourism administration from the Centennial College of Applied Arts and Technology in Toronto, Ontario. A Certified Public Accountant, she also completed the managerial accounting/finance program at Toronto’s Ryerson Polytechnic University.

Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Brown worked for the InterContinental Hotels Group for nearly eighteen years serving in a wide range of positions, including regional hotel manager for the InterContinental Hotels of Cleveland; as well as executive assistant manager for the Crowne Plaza Royal Palm South Beach, where she oversaw the daily operation of the 417-room hotel. Additionally, she has held various corporate positions with InterContinental including the management of the hotel group’s global hotel audit department.

In addition to her role as General Manager in Philadelphia, Brown served on the executive board of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), was a board member for The Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association (GPHA), The Philadelphia Sports Congress and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC). Prior to her departure from Philadelphia, she was named to the board for the Mayor’s Hospitality Committee.

Outside of the hospitality industry, Brown is an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). She was honored by NABA with the “Walking the Road Less Traveled” national award and was recently recognized with an esteemed Trumpet Award which heralds the accomplishments of Black Americans in the United States.

Born in Jamaica, Brown was raised in Canada and looks forward to calling Boston her new home along with her husband, Otto and their ten-year-old twins, Sidney and Sebastian.
