DANA POINT, Calif. – May 3, 2016 – As the official hotel partner of Pageant of the Masters and Festival of Arts, The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel is pleased to announce this year’s exhibit will showcase original works and posters from 8 past and present Festival of Arts artists. Guests can visit this one-of-a-kind exhibit while on display in the Art Exhibit Space at the oceanfront resort through September 2, 2016.

More than 450 artists submit their work to be featured at the Festival of Arts every year and only 140 are selected. After that the jury selects one artist to have their work featured on the Festival of Arts poster.

“This year’s exhibit pays tribute to this small group of artists who were selected to have their work highlighted on the Festival of Arts exhibition poster,” said Exhibit Curator Pat Sparkuhl. “The show pairs the Festival poster with the original painting that served as its inspiration. To demonstrate the relationship of the exhibit with Pageant of the Masters, samples of historical documents and Pageant imagery are also incorporated,” he added.

Participating artists include:

  • Julie Watson, 1985 Poster Artist
  • Hal Akins, 1987 Poster Artist
  • Jack Dudley, 1988 Poster Artist
  • Roger Kuntz, 1989 Poster Artist
  • Edmund Ashby, 1990 Poster Artist
  • Eugene Kaspin, 1993 Poster Artist
  • Michael Jacques, Poster Artist 1991
  • R.E. Russell, 1994 Poster Artist

“Our guests have been extremely interested and excited to view our Festival of Arts exhibit that we have showcased over the past few years and we are delighted to feature the work of these amazing Festival artists again this year,” says Director of Sales & Marketing Shannon Gilbert. “The uniqueness of the exhibit and the historical component both lends itself well to the resort’s playful approach to luxury and creates interest for our guests during the annual Festival of Arts,” she added.

For a more comprehensive art experience, guests can book one of two Pageant of the Masters overnight experiences that feature incredible seats and exclusive offerings. About Pageant of the Masters and Festival of Arts

The Pageant of the Masters is the Festival of Arts’ crowning jewel and arguably one of the most unique productions in the entire world. Real people magically transformed into life-sized re-creations of famous works of arts. A live narrator guides the audience through the story of each living picture accompanied by the music of a professional orchestra. The Festival of Arts is California’s premiere fine art show. The Festival’s prestigious juried art show includes a wide variety of media such as paintings, photography, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, handcrafted wood and furniture, ceramics, glass and more – all by 140 of Orange County’s finest artists.  Established in 1932, Festival of Arts promotes, produces and sponsors events and activities that encourage the appreciation, study and performance of the arts.
