Three New Localized Spa Treatments Evoke a True Sense of Place
NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – March 28, 2017 – The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, located mid-mountain at Northstar California Resort, is pleased to introduce three new localized spa treatments inspired from the architectural design of The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Lake Tahoe. Offered year-round, the new treatments encompass the tree theme conveyed throughout the entire property and incorporate ingredients from the surrounding environment, such as native essential oils and indigenous stones from Lake Tahoe.
“We pride ourselves on providing guests with an authentic Lake Tahoe experience at our spa and throughout the entire resort,” said Candice Betz, spa director of The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. “The tree theme that carries throughout the resort, from the architecture in the main lounge area to intricate details in the rooms, reminds our guests of the beautiful and protective region that surrounds them.”
The tree theme expressed throughout the resort is designed to create the feeling that guests are “under the protection of the canopy of trees.” The 55-foot high weathered granite fireplace in the Living Room represents a large tree trunk, with wooden beams extending out that imitate its branches. Beyond that, the theme is shown through décor at the resort’s signature restaurant, Manzanita, as well as in the guest rooms, the spa, and various other elements.
The 17,000-square-foot spa was originally conceptualized using inspiration from the local environment. The descent from the upstairs spa lobby down to the treatment rooms was designed to create the feeling of traveling from the canopy of the trees down to the forest floor, where one can sense a distinctive shift of light and sound. The lower level hallway has dual significance. On one hand, the wooden beams with green wooden floors represent tree branches and fallen pine needles creating the sensation of a forest pathway. Alternatively, the wooden beams also represent a mine shaft paying homage to the first major U.S. discovery of silver in nearby Virginia City, Nevada. The entire spa experience embodies the physical and mental transformation that guests take when leaving the busy world upstairs and entering the treatment rooms and relaxation area.
Further enhancing the spa’s sense of place, each treatment room is named after various local wildflowers and fauna found throughout the Sierra Nevada region, including Larkspur, Daisy and Yarrow. The Cozy Cabin Treatment Room, was designed to pay tribute to the classic architecture seen throughout the region with its wooden interior, fireplace and low ceiling. The Couple’s Treatment Room features a healing, deep soaking copper tub, which envelopes the body with warmth and relaxation due to its malleable property. This creates a restorative effect on joint movement and connective tissue, while reducing inflammation.
When developing the three new signature spa treatments, all aspects of the thoughtful design were considered and used as inspiration.
