BEIJING, CHINA – July 2017 – Andrew Rogers, Multi-Property Vice President and General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street, has appointed Paulo De Souza as the new Executive Chef of the hotel. In his new role, Chef Paulo will be leading the hotel’s team of talented award-winning chefs.
Paulo has more than 20 years’ experience in the culinary discipline and worked in kitchens all over the world, such as in Switzerland, Peru, Spain, to name a few places. Most recently, he held the role of Executive Head Chef at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, UAE. Paulo has an extensive background in free-standing Michelin restaurants including: El Bulli (3* Michelin) near Barcelona, Spain; Restaurant Gordon Ramsay (3* Michelin) in London, UK; and Oyarbide Gastro (1* Michelin) in Malaga, Spain.
Paulo is a native of Peru and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu Lima, Peru and also earned his master’s degree in Culinary Arts at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, France. During his time in Barcelona, Spain, he also obtained his master’s degree in Culinary Arts “Elaboraciones Caracteristicas – El Bulli” at Universidad de Barcelona and “Cocina Avanzada” at the Escuela de Hosteleria Hofmann.
In his new role, Paulo will lead the Culinary Division in driving innovation in all of our outlets and Banquets, continuous development and growth of the Ladies and Gentlemen and maintaining the reputation of The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street as the premier and most innovative destination in Beijing for excellent cuisine. He will work closely with the hotel’s Food & Beverage team to ensure continued commitment to legendary service and culinary excellence. “I am bringing extensive expertise from around the globe to create unique and memorable dining experiences and will continue to focus on the products and strive to enhance our service,” Paulo said in setting his vision for the future.
Paulo is no stranger to Beijing, as he was Executive Chef of the Salt Group where he worked for several years overseeing four of their restaurants here in the city. He loves exploring China and indulging in the gastronomic culture. Paulo is married and spends his free time painting, doing photography and design. He is an avid sportsman who enjoys surfing, skateboarding and cycling.
