A Hidden Getaway in the City Center
CHENGDU, China – January 1, 2017 – It seems easy to find a French or Italian restaurant in Chengdu, but a Mediterranean restaurant may seem harder to locate. Dining Room will be among the few on the list. The restaurant is located on the 27th floor of The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu, inside FLAIR Restaurant & Bar. Even if you are a frequent visitor to the hotel, you may still find yourself amazed and surprised by the authentic Mediterranean food prepared by Dining Room. The restaurant opens at dusk, offering seafood, steak, olive oil and so on, featuring an ambience of privacy, warmth and elegance.
Western food and seafood sometimes seems distant and cold, but Dining Room tells you another story. Its Chinese name is “Ting,” meaning a place like home, a room where you entertain your guests with a home-cooked meal. The restaurant occupies an area at FLAIR which was renovated by PDR. The square tables and white tablecloth, together with the spacious terrace reminiscent of the white houses by the Aegean Sea, make the place especially romantic.
The birth of Dining Room has everything to do with the Executive Chef of The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu – Mr. Steffen Gube. Mr. Gube, who is from Germany, joined the renowned Michelin three-star restaurant, L’Arpege, as a Sous Chef and worked with the legendary culinary master Alain Passard. Twenty-four years’ experience in the industry gave him the confidence to pursue his own culinary philosophy of the simplest cooking methods, thus bringing out the authentic taste of food. It worked so well with Mediterranean cuisine it encouraged Mr. Gube to open a brand-new restaurant at the hotel.

It doesn’t highlight overelaborate dining etiquette, but the raw and authentic character of its food ingredients. Dining Room specializes in steak, tuna, lobster and many kinds of seasonal saltwater fish paired with a dipping sauce made with olive oil, a perfect embodiment of Mediterranean gastronomy. Seafood is keen to Mediterranean cuisine, but people say its soul is actually the olive oil. Locals rarely eat animal fat. It is one of the reasons why Mediterranean people are very healthy.
