Bringing 24 years of culinary expertise for customers in Chengdu to enjoy a brand-new gourmet experience
CHENGDU, China – July 1, 2016 – The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu has officially announced the appointment of Mr Steffen Gube as the Executive Chef of the hotel. The German chef is responsible for the overall management of four restaurants and executive lounges as well as the operation and administration of room services.
Born and raised in Gorlitz city in eastern Germany, Mr. Gube has been passionate about simple cooking, including pastry baking and horticulture, since his childhood. This enabled his innate talent in using different raw ingredients. At the age of 18, Mr. Gube started to learn more about cuisine and worked as a trainee in a professional kitchen. He later obtained his master’s degree in professional cooking with distinction.
Proficient in German, French and English, Mr. Gube started his career as an apprentice at Relais & Château Hotel Traube Tonbach, Baiersbronn. Since then, he has spared no efforts in advancing his culinary skills and was promoted to Sous Chef within two short years. In 1999, he followed Michelin two-starred Head Chef Jacques Maximin to further develop his culinary skills. In 2001, Mr. Gube joined the renowned Michelin three-starred restaurant, L’Arpege, to become the Sous Chef and work with the legendary culinary master Alain Passard.
After years of perseverance and hard work, Mr. Gube has successfully transformed himself from an apprentice into an outstanding Executive Chef. His presence spanned Germany, France, the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi and Dubai) and Japan. He has also worked for many Michelin-starred restaurants and luxurious hotels. Mr. Gube joined The Ritz-Carlton Group in October 2012 and was appointed Executive Chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka. Four years later, he officially joined The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu as the Executive Chef, bringing his 24 years of culinary expertise and professional management experience to benefit Chengdu’s customers with a brand-new gourmet experience.
During his leisure time, Mr Gube enjoys playing tennis and going to the gym. Speaking about the meaning of his Chinese name “Gu Fu De (古富德)”, he said, “it resonates with the sound of ‘Good Food’. As China has long been a food kingdom since the ancient times, and Sichuan has numerous types of special ingredients and spices, I am eager to experience the exciting convergence of Eastern and Western cuisines here. I also hope that I can bring ‘Good Food’ to everyone here.”
Regarding the appointment of Mr. Gube, Mr. Vito Romeo, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Chengdu, said, “Mr. Gube’s professionalism and leadership will certainly be an inspiration to our kitchen team here. Both Chengdu’s customers and our hotel are very excited about a new feast of exquisite cuisines coming soon.”
