GUANGZHOU, China – November 18, 2016 – The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou is pleased to announce the appointment of Marcel Damen as Executive Assistant Manager - Rooms. Marcel will oversee all aspects of Rooms Operations including Front Office, Housekeeping, Club, Loss Prevention, Spa and Residences, and focus in driving product and service excellence to ensure guest satisfaction. Prior to joining The Ritz-Carlton, Guangzhou, Marcel held same position in Indonesia where he opened The Ritz-Carlton, Bali.
Marcel, a Dutch national, began his career as a part-time chef and joined the Marriott group in 1993 as Career Development Trainee in the Food & Beverage division. He subsequently spent several years working in Rooms leadership positions at Marriott Hotels in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Armenia and Russia.
Marcel embarked on his career with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in 2005 as Front Office Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, Florida USA. Soon after, he travelled across to Asia working for the most illustrious resorts and hotels in Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia, including the BVLGARI Hotels & Resorts, Bali and Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. He was also instrumental in about 10 successful Ritz-Carlton hotel openings, from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong to Bangalore.
Marcel holds two Certificates from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in New York. He is fond of music and enjoys spinning his playlists as a DJ during his leisure time. He is also an avid soccer lover who is a big fan of Ajax Amsterdam.
