Hong Kong, November 9, 2017 – From November 23, 2017 to January 1, 2018, The Lounge & Bar will be brimming with elegance and romance of Vienna as its afternoon tea will be plating up palatable pastries and desserts from the legendary Viennese coffee house Café Landtmann.

Viennese lifestyle and Viennese coffeehouses go hand in hand. Since 2011, the Viennese coffeehouse culture has been listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. With a history dating back to the 17th century, it remains an integral part of everyday contemporary life in the Austrian capital. Opening its doors in 1873, Café Landtmann was founded by a family of coffee house owners, gingerbread bakers, and fig coffee manufacturers. The Querfeld family took over Café Landtmann in 1976 with unfailing passion in preserving the legacy of this historical gem. Guests flock to Café Landtmann for its welcoming coziness and atmospheric charm of the golden 1920s.

Epicures in Hong Kong will have an opportunity to sample a selection of afternoon tea treats prepared by Chef Viola Plundrak from Café Landtmann. The Vienna Afternoon Tea at The Lounge & Bar will be serving an enticing range of desserts, pastries and cookies plated on an exquisite three-tier tea stand as well as in the cake counter.

The buttery aroma of the Original Vienna Apple Strudel sweetens the air in Café Landtmann and is an irresistible allure for gourmet visitors alike. The original recipe came from the imperial bakery of Schönbrunn Palace – strudel dough is drawn out paper-thin by hand and filled with locally grown apples, buttered breadcrumbs and raisins soaked in rum. Airy and flaky on the outside and juicy sweet on the inside, Café Landtmann’s signature Apple Strudel conveys the confectioners’ true respect for traditional crafts.

Mozart Cake is a tempting treat for any chocolate lover. The cake is assembled with alternate layers of moist chocolate sponge cake, rich chocolate mousse and silky smooth pistachio cream, delivering a symphony of flavors in harmonious textures.

Mini Marble Gugelhupf is a traditional yeasted cake baked in a circular Bundt mold. Blending streaks of chocolate dough and vanilla dough, the cake carries a beautifully mottled pattern. The buttery aroma and heavenly texture make gugelhupf a perfect accompaniment to sips of Café Landtmann’s Viennese coffee selection (available at an additional HK$38 per cup). On November 25 and December 24 and 25, live performances of the Vienna Boys Choir Academy Concert Choir will also be available.
