Shanghai, China - February 1, 2016 - Who can resist the allure of chocolate? Imagine the feeling of walking into a chocolate shop and smelling the decadent aroma. And somehow, even without a taste of that chocolate, you feel better! The reason? The scent of chocolate stimulates “happy feeling” endorphins which create feelings of well-being and can actually reduce stress! And now, the newly launched chocolate Spa at The Ritz-Carlton Spa can let you indulge your skin with that same luxury.
After having a cup of rich hot chocolate drink, tantalize your senses with the aroma of a full-body chocolate scrub, a personalized chocolate massage and a soothing chocolate wrap with a chocolate facial. To cap off your chocolate transformation, a delectable handmade chocolate treat prepared by the hotel’s French Executive Pastry Chef will be waiting for you after this unique treatment.
In fact, the cocoa is believed to be good for your skin. It contains over 300 compounds which can have a positive effect on your skin. Cocoa contains glycerides which provide moisturizing lipids and fats that reduce wrinkles. Theobromine, a compound in chocolate that is similar to caffeine, stimulates the circulatory system and produces a slimming effect on the body. Chocolate also contains polyphenols, antioxidants that thwart the free radicals which are responsible for aging. More importantly for the romantics in our audience, chocolate causes the body to release feel-good hormones similar to those released when you are in love. (Biologically speaking, those who claim chocolate equals love aren’t far off).
This chocolate Spa treatment undoubtedly leaves you not only looking great, but feeling great! So indulge in the essence of chocolate!

Chocolate Body Scrub and Massage
This massage makes the most of cocoa’s antioxidants and muscle-relaxing magnesium, beginning with a chocolate salt scrub to soften your skin. After that, your masseuse will massage your whole body with spa’s signature chocolate almond oil, leaving you as silky as your favorite dark chocolate pot de crème.
Chocolate Full-Body Wrap and Facial
The second session is to have a thick chocolate smear applied to you by your masseuse. The chocolate can be so enveloping with the second option that you may feel like you are in a bath even without the sensation of splashing around in liquid. There will be a chocolate facial as well.

What are the benefits from chocolate massage?
Chocolate's caffeine can stimulate circulation. Chocolate's high caffeine content stimulates your circulation, allowing your blood to naturally rejuvenate and heal your skin, reports Fox News. Antioxidants also give your skin a plumper, firmer feel and help your cells build collagen and elastin. Antioxidants work throughout your skin to prevent damage by free radicals, the culprits responsible for aging skin and loss of elasticity, says Vanderbilt University.
The natural oils found in cocoa butter are usually combined with other traditional massage oils, like safflower and olive oils, which work into your skin to give it deep moisture. Beyond simply rubbing on commercial lotion, a chocolate massage gives you a power-pack of moisturizing agents. Chocolate massage all over for extremely dry skin or on specific rough patches, including knees, elbows and soles, reports The Herb Companion. The antioxidants found in chocolate massage creams also help the skin retain moisture long after the massage is over.
Improves Your Health
Chocolate can burst the cardio system with its antioxidants. Chocolate can benefit other aspects of your health, notes Fox News. Dark chocolate is especially rich in antioxidants, which can boost your cardiovascular system. Additionally, Dr. Alan Hirsch, neurological director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation of Chicago, said on FoxNews.com that chocolate positively affects your brain by causing feelings of euphoria. Even the smell of rich chocolate can give someone the mental and physical benefits normally enjoyed with consumption, says Hirsch.
