Shanghai, December 2017 —The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai is proud to announce that Belinda Yuan, director of finance, has been named the 2017 Finance Hotelier of the Year Greater China by The Hotelier Awards.  

With 27 years tenure at the hotel, Yuan is one of the rare talents in the market with longstanding service and has demonstrated a successful trajectory with the company and witnessed the hotel’s growth in line with the dynamic developments of Shanghai.  In 1989, she joined the hotel as accounting trainee and converted to cost clerk in 1990. Two years later, in May 1992, she was promoted to cost control supervisor, and shortly after became assistant cost controller in 1993. With a good track record, Yuan was again promoted to cost controller in April 1995. In June 1997, she was promoted to process analyst in the finance department. After working for nearly 13 years in The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai, Yuan was then promoted to chief accountant in 2003 and subsequently became assistant director of finance in May 2007. In March 2012, she rose up the ranks as director of finance and has since been overseeing the division since.

Through the 27 years, Yuan has achieved several internal awards including: 3rd Quarter 5 Star Leader Nomination & Winner in 1998, 1st Quarter 5 star Leader Nomination in 2002, 4th Quarter 5 star Leader Nomination in 2004, 1st Quarter 5 star Leader Nomination in 2006 and 4th Quarter 5 star Leader Nomination in 2007. Yuan is known for her attention to detail, is excellent in maximizing financial results. She is also can efficient communicator on the hotel’s financial goals and initiates action plans in order to deliver the result as a team.  She has also achieved other awards during her service years such as: Outstanding credit control for the hotel of 3rd quarter 2013, awarded forecast accuracy for 4th quarter 2013, and effective scores for Marriott Internal Audit completed in March 2014.

The finance department successfully achieved 100% in the employee engagement survey in 2016 and previous five years – one of the lowest turnover divisions in the market. Yuan has also exceeded the hotel’s expectations by assisting sister hotels. She was part of task force team to assist on the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya in 2008; helped set up the accounting system to open The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing Financial Street in 2006 and The Ritz-Carlton, Sanya in April 2008; successfully assisted in finance leadership handover in The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing in 2008; was an opening trainer at The Ritz- Carlton, Tianjin in 2013; was one of the most senior trainers for “Train the Trainer” for accounting team; and was part of countdown team to successfully open The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou in 2017.
