Shanghai, China – September, 2017 – The landmark Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai on the prestigious Nanjing West Road celebrated the 1st anniversary of The Ritz Bar & Lounge on Friday, 8 September 2017, a commemorative milestone since the hotel has unveiled the exciting social destination. Promising to be a first call for global travelers and Shanghai’s fashionable set, the city hot spot segues from elegant lounge by day to sexy cocktail bar and nexus of Shanghai’s famous nightlife scene by night.

To celebrate the anniversary evening, The Ritz Bar & Lounge introduced a series of innovative cocktails by a power duo of head bartender Jackael He, who was joined by renowned guest bartender Joe Schofield from the globally acclaimed restaurant and bar Tippling Club of Singapore (11th Best Bar in Asia by Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2017).

Celebrating Shanghai’s impressive craft cocktail culture, Jackael He’s menu at The Ritz Bar & Lounge offers signature cocktails with unique Chinese influences and fresh ingredients; notably the Pineapple Butter Beer, the winning cocktail of Jackael in the national Marriott head bartender competition modelled on the Harry Potter butter beer, which is a summery light concoction with a velvety finish made with Beluga vodka, homemade pineapple shrub, fresh pineapple juice, balanced with maple syrup and topped with an Ipa and butter cream foam.

Fresh off his stint as barman at London’s prestigious The Savoy, Joe Schofield worked at internationally renowned cocktail bars such as The Zetter Townhouse, London and The American Bar (No. 2, The World’s 50 Best Bars 2016). He placed top five in the Bombay Sapphire World’s Most Imaginative Bartender competition, was a Global Finalist at the Beefeater MIXLDN, judged the Bacardi Legacy regional finals, and most recently took his place as an International Bartender of the Year top 10 contender in the Tales of the Cocktail’s 2017 Spirited Awards— all in the span of four short years. Joe
seeks to push the boundaries of modern-day cocktail culture by putting forth creative and conceptual libations. Joe presented three specially made cocktails for the evening, namely Caramel, Grass and Leather.

Asia’s leading female DJ Naomi who is resident DJ at The Ritz Bar & Lounge led the decks throughout the night, artfully blending deep house and vocal house with live interactions within the enchanting 1930s lounge atmosphere. Tune in with crafted cocktails and a selection of savoury and sweet offerings by executive chef William Wang and executive sous chef Herwig Knapen.
