Dubai, UAE, 14 September 2016 – Following a break for the summer, the Café Belge brunch returns this Friday (16th September) in grand style with an elegant new concept that promises a joyous celebration of Belgian eating culture.
Inspired by the golden era of 1920s Brussels, the Café Belge Alfresco Brunch plays on the vintage glamor synonymous with the time and introduces some fun new twists, including open-air dining on the garden terrace.
The journey begins from the moment guests’ sweep through the ornate iron doors, with the 1920s flair evident from the striking Art Deco and Art Nouveau décor, while the live saxophonist and DJ set the scene with a combination of classic and contemporary jazz.
Guests can to choose to experience brunch from the elegant restaurant, spacious air-conditioned terrace or - new this season - outside in the urban garden. Once seated, expect a decadent stream of classic Belgian cuisine served sharing style.
The show-stopping signature fruits de mer (seafood platter), piled high with fresh lobster, oysters and winkles, and served with a side of creamy Belgian mayonnaise, is merely the start and is followed by an array of hors d’oeuvres, main courses and desserts.
In addition to enjoying the lavish brunch outside, the new concept also captures the essence of what makes Belgian cuisine unique through a series of interactive experiences:
Filet Américain: The Belgian take on hand cut Beef Tartar, will be served the traditional way - gueridon-style from a vintage trolley.
Moules (mussels) cooking station: Guests can sample a choice of preparations ofBelgium’s national dish, with different options each week.
Dessert room: Offering something to suit every sweet tooth, including a Belgian waffle station with a choice of delectable accompaniments
Guests looking to continue the fun after brunch are invited to enjoy an extended happy hour, with a complimentary second beverage when ordering from a selection of Belgium’s finest beers and a choice of wines between 4pm and 8pm.
Secrets from The Chef
To mark the launch of the Café Belge Alfresco Brunch, Romain Van Durman, Chef at Café Belge, shares some culinary insights into some classically Belgian dishes:
Mussels are served in a variety of ways throughout Belgium but the most common method is À la marinière, which consists of white wine, shallots, parsley and butter. It is difficult to improve on this classic method, but we have a few twists on our menu for guests to try, such as a decadent version with Champagne and cream.
The trick to eating mussels like the Belgians? Use a discarded shell as a spoon to scoop out the plump little delicacies and flavorful juices.
A culinary tradition in Brussels, Filet Américain often comes to the table unconstructed for the server to expertly prepare in front of the guest. The filet of beef is undoubtedly the star ingredient, but the way the dish is prepared is also very important. There are some strong flavor combinations, such as Worcestershire sauce and the all-important hot sauce, so there is genuine skill involved in getting the delicate balance just right.
Considered by many to be the authentic Belgian experience, few people realize there is more than one kind of waffle. At Café Belge, we serve the Liège Waffle (namedafter the city of Liège, in eastern Belgium) and the Belgian Waffle. The ingredients used and the method of preparation is what sets them apart. The former is made with pearl sugar which caramelizes on the outside giving it a lovely crunch, while the latter is much lighter, so ideal when enjoyed at the end of a meal.
