Moscow, Russia — October 14, 2015 —Tea was first introduced in Russia in the year 1638 and it quickly became a popular drink among the elite. By the middle of the 19th century tea was the main hot drink in the vast areas of The Russian Empire. Drinking tea became such an essential part of the Russian everyday life that the English dramatist J. B. Priestley once noted that Russians tend to drink tea “all day and half of the night.” For this reason, tea ceremonies have always been an essential part of The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow scenography. Recently the hotel introduced two new exciting offerings.

Perfume High Tea. To celebrate the 80th anniversary, Maison Lancôme introduced the new version of the legendary perfume Climat. This scent gained wide popularity across Russia in the 1970s and still conjures up fond memories. In tribute to this occasion and in collaboration with the Moscow headquarters of the perfume brand, The Ritz-Carlton, Moscow developed a special tea menu. The guests can choose from twenty-four fine loose teas that are complemented with nine exquisite French desserts, with tastes intricately linked with the main notes of the Climat perfume. For instance, a distinct note of jasmine in the perfume is played over in a Chocolate & Jasmine Éclair, while the fruity and flowery aromas of Climat are conveyed in Rose Marshmallow and Rose & Lychee Marmalade. The synaesthesia of the aromas and tastes can be experienced until November 30th at Café Russe for 1,600 roubles.

Winter Afternoon Tea. On December 1st–20th a lavish afternoon tea buffet with a festive touch will be presented in the Lobby Bar & Lounge. The hotel’s Pastry Chef Baptiste Villefranque created a wide range of contemporary desserts including Pistachio and Cherry Cake, Vanilla Mille Feuille, Fresh Fruits, Vanilla & Mascarpone Mousse, White Chocolate and Pecan Cookies, Clotted Cream with Marmalade and over 20 other items. The guests will be offered a choice of the finest loose tea or hot chocolate with whipped cream/cognac and alcoholic/non-alcoholic mulled wine. The offer will be valid from 3:30 to 5:30 p. m. daily for 1,600 roubles.
