Sintra – March, 2017 – Nothing brings fathers and sons closer together than an indulgent round of golf— particularly on Father’s Day.
And there is no-where better to enjoy unforgettable family golf time than on the stunning greens of Penha Longa Resort which is organising a special ‘Fathers & Sons Tournament’ to celebrate Father’s Day on March 19.
The tournament will be held at the resort’s historic nine-hole Monastery Course with successive tee times starting from 8.30am. The format is Texas Scramble — where the best ball of each father and son team is selected for the second shot — to ensure a lively game of strategy, camaraderie and serious fun.
The resort’s General Manager David Martinez said: “This is an unforgettable Father’s Day gift because our tournament is designed to inspire a great day out whatever the skill level of the competitors.
“Of course, there will be golfers who take their intergenerational competitiveness very seriously but there will also be those who are picking up a golf club for the first time — and for those people we are also holding a Beginners Golf Clinic from 9am to 10am.
“Not only is the tournament a unique opportunity for fathers and sons to share quality time together but it could also be the start of a sporting family tradition that can be enjoyed for many, many years to come.”
Penha Longa is ideally suited for such a tradition. Last year the resort achieved 11th place in the ‘Top 100’ list of European Golf Resorts published by Golf World and was named the ‘Best Luxury Golf Resort in Europe 2017’ by the Luxury Guide Awards.
The resort’s two world-class courses were created by renowned designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Atlantic Course is a challenging 18-hole, par 72, Championship course with breath-taking views of the surrounding 220-hectare National Park, while the nine-hole Monastery Course is a par 35 executive course that encompasses stunning panoramas of the resort’s historic buildings.
