Sintra, Portugal — October 2016 — Inspired by 220 hectares of mountain nature reserve and the rich historical legacy that informs its ancient buildings and gardens, Penha Longa Resort has launched an innovative series of wellness team-building programmes.

“Penha Longa has been an historic meeting place and a source of natural reflection for centuries,” says General Manager David Martinez. “A monastery was established here in the 14th century and the palace was used for meetings of the Portuguese Royal family and visiting dignitaries who sought cool, calming inspiration away from the summer heat of Lisbon.”

Today that tradition continues through the resort’s new wellness team-building programmes that are designed to inspire fresh ideas while nourishing the body and spirit.

The resort’s ancient palaces, chapels and monastery ruins, for instance, offer the perfect setting for team-building treasure hunts, competitive races or atmospheric meetings, while the medieval gardens and nearby forested mountain park provide an inspirational backdrop for Boot Camp Challenges, activities such as football, tennis or biking as well as bespoke ‘Team Championship’ events.

The resort’s Spa, meanwhile, features nine treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and a relaxing oriental garden which is perfect for team-building yoga, Qi-Gong, meditative sessions or simply enjoying the mindfulness of exploring the garden’s labyrinth.

Also offering a new perspective on well-being are customised lifestyle team-building sessions focusing on movement, nutrition and mental dexterity in addition to stress-relieving massages, facials and body treatments.

“For more than 600 years, Penha Longa has been a sanctuary of solace, in the 21st century nothing has changed, we continue to offer teams an unforgettable and unique place where they can reflect, recharge and be inspired,” says David Martinez.
