Estoril, Portugal — June, 30th — Picture the scene — a warm summer evening laughing with friends or family in a glamorous historic setting enjoying an indulgent beachside dinner while savouring one of the most iconic views in Europe — the last rays of sun glittering across the waves of the Atlantic.

Welcome to Villa Tamariz Utopia — a unique new venue that combines the best of Mediterranean gastronomy with the relaxed barefoot luxury of the glamorous town of Estoril, the crown jewel of the Portuguese Riviera.

“Villa Tamariz Utopia is the epitome of Estoril’s laid-back coastal glamour based right on Tamariz Beach,” explains David Martinez, General Manager. “Throughout the day the alfresco terrace lounge bar is open for breakfast, light lunches and evening drinks and at night our restaurant offers a contemporary Mediterranean menu with more than 17 varieties of Portuguese and Spanish rice dishes.”

Estoril is where 20th century actors, writers, painters, singers and even World War spies stayed at the crenulated villa homes of European aristocracy, socialised on the town’s famous golden beaches and tried their luck at Estoril Casino — the place where Ian Fleming was inspired to write his first James Bond novel, Casino Royale.

Villa Tamariz’s giant windows, colonnaded arches and landmark tower have long played a central role in Estoril’s rich history. Built on the site of São Roque Fortress in the 19th century by government minister Ernesto Drisel Schöter, the elegant building was named Tamariz Villa after the nearby tamarind trees.

As wealthy tourists began to discover Estoril in the early 20th century courtesy of the famous Paris-to-Lisbon railway Sud Express, the villa was transformed into an exclusive luxury restaurant and tearoom.

Today, that legacy of hospitality continues courtesy of the relaxed indulgence of Villa Tamariz Utopia and its unforgettable location overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

“There is a timeless beauty about Estoril that has captivated worldly wise travellers for more than a century,” says David Martinez. “At Villa Tamariz Utopia we aim to build on this legacy by creating contemporary memories that are equally unforgettable.”
