Vienna, February 2018 - This year, the Falstaff editorial office has evaluated more than 250,000 votes from around 18,000 guests for the "Falstaff Restaurant Guide 2018". In addition to the categories food, service, wine list and ambience, special categories such as life's work, restaurateur of the year, service of the year, opening of the year and sommelier of the year were also evaluated. This year's coveted title of "Sommelier of the Year" was won by Sindy Kretschmar from the "Dstrikt Steakhouse" at "The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna".
Born in Zwenkau near Leipzig, Sindy Kretschmar completed her sommelier exam in Munich in 2015 and was already then an absolute pioneer in a male dominated world of sommeliers. The fast-paced career of Sindy Kretschmar began in the "Hotel-Restaurant Bareiss" in Baiersbronn. Most recently she worked as a Sommelier and Restaurant Manager in the gourmet restaurant "Fährhaus" on Sylt, at the restaurant "Lois Stern" and at the "Golf & Ski Restaurant Grand Tirolia" in Kitzbühel, before Sindy Kretschmar joined the “Dstrikt Steakhouse” in "The Ritz-Carlton, Vienna" as a Sommelière in July 2016.
There she made the restaurant "Dstrikt Steakhouse", which specializes in excellent steaks from Austrian Dry Aged Beef, in no time a coveted wine address. Sindy Kretschmar is characterized above all by her great passion for wine and experimentation. The coveted "Sommelier of the Year" award recognizes Sindy Kretschmar's great work and makes her the first "Sommelière of the Year" ever.
