Lakeside resort debuts vibrant seasonal experiences for summer
GREENSBORO, GA – June 2, 2016 – The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee, an AAA, Five-Diamond resort located on the shores of Lake Oconee, Ga., is offering a new and robust roster of compelling summer experiences to celebrate the season. From family walks with the resort’s chocolate lab mascot, Dooley, to ecology education, backyard games and more, the resort boasts something memorable for guests of all ages this summer.
“Summer is a truly magical time at Lake Oconee and my team looks forward to it all year” said Ralph Vick, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee. “With the new summer programming our goal was to create an array of memory-making moments and experiences exclusive to the resort’s unique location, characteristics and culinary offerings.”
Summer experiences include:
Nightly S’mores in the Backyard
Each evening at 8 p.m., guests are invited to convene in the backyard for complimentary s’mores roasted over the resort’s backyard fire. Build a creative and personalized s’more with the wide variety of chocolate and graham cracker flavors offered. Enjoy stargazing by the fire with new telescopes nightly, and signature s’mores flavors will be available on holiday weekends accompanied by live music. On rainy days, guests can meet in the lobby to enjoy marshmallow and chocolate fondue with a graham cracker crumble.
Get to Know Dooley
The resort’s chocolate lab mascot, Dooley, greets all guests from his post at the concierge desk. Starting this summer, guests can also join him for a complimentary dog walk each Wednesday at 11 a.m. – and are encouraged to bring their own four-legged friends!
In addition, Dooley recently introduced “Dooley’s Dozen Book Club,” a program to promote love of literature amongst the hotel’s youngest guests. Dooley has approved and paw-signed 12 books for the year, selected at two levels based on age group and corresponding reading experience – preschool through early elementary and third through fifth grades. During each stay at the resort, parents can enroll their children to receive a special delivery of one of the 12 books along with a tasty “puppy chow” treat created by the culinary team. If all 12 books are collected throughout 2016, the child will receive a photo session with Dooley and an award for their love of literature.
Learn about the local environment: The resort’s recreation team hosts “Teachable Moments Walking Tours” at 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Sundays. Topics include “Legends of the Lake” and “Living Landscapes.” The tour is complimentary for all guests and lasts 45 to 60 minutes.
Fishing and recreation: Cast and release with new fishing equipment available for the summer season. Guests of all ages can explore Georgia’s cleanest and second largest lake by kayak, canoe or YOLO board.
Georgia’s Bistro Garden: At Georgia’s Bistro’s garden, guests can get up close to the fresh herbs grown for dishes in the restaurant. Admire the purple basil, oregano, lavender and more used in farm-to-fork dishes by chef Aaron Baxendale, who focuses on local and seasonal ingredients in each of his culinary creations. To learn more about the garden, join the resort’s chef each Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11 a.m. for a meet and greet.
Backyard Fun and Games
Play family-friendly games in the backyard, even after dark! New “glow games” are available for use all summer long – including bocce ball, ladder golf, lawn darts and Frisbee golf.
The always-popular Linger Longer Express Train will run daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, led by the resort’s conductor in an official uniform. Choo choo!
Finally, the resorts young guests can stay cool with complimentary Sno-Balls offered on Saturdays at the children’s pool at 1:30 p.m.
Flavors of Georgia
The poolside taco stand returns for the summer to serve up tacos every Saturday through Labor Day weekend. Located at the Gaby’s by the Lake pool deck, the stand allows guests to enjoy a light summer lunch poolside, while overlooking picturesque Lake Oconee. Menu items include a Smoked BBQ Pork “Banh Mi” taco with pickled carrots, jalapeno, cilantro and sambal aioli, a “Nashville Hot Chicken” taco with house made bread and butter pickles and honey slaw and a Blackened Catfish taco with chipotle peach slaw and avocado. The stand also boasts two house-made hot sauces, the Buckhead Reaper and the Scorpion King that both lend a flavorful kick. The taco stand is open every Saturday from 12 to 3 p.m. throughout the summer.
Lastly, every Saturday in Georgia’s Bistro from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., take a lesson on a southern original, bourbon, where the resort’s resident bourbon expert will educate guests on the origin, history, process and flavor profile of bourbon. Chef Aaron Baxendale will create a small southern tasting to pair with the libations. This experience costs $22 and has limited availability; please call 706.467.7135 for reservations.
