BANGALORE, August 26, 2016: Known for crafting experiences that meld the traditional with the contemporary and the everyday with the exotic, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore prepares to celebrate The Mid-Autumn Festival also called the Chinese Moon Festival, one of the most important annual festivals for the Chinese people, and one that is gaining ground as a globally symbolic festival for family reunion.
Between the 8th to 15th September, Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated by way of special menu items at The Lantern, and an array of Mooncakes in varied flavors will add a special element of celebration.
Handcrafted by our own Master Chef David Chan, an array of Moon Cakes will be on offer at Ganache, the hotel’s patisserie, making for exquisite gifting options or enjoying as a sweet ending to special meals during the period of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Some flavors that may be expected are Red bean paste, Lotus Paste, Yam lotus paste, Pandan lotus paste in traditional varieties and within the melt-in-the-mouth Snow-skin variety, one can expect Blue Berry, Chocolate and Peanut.
In Chinese culture, round mooncakes complementing the harvest moon in the night sky at the Mid-Autumn Festival were revered and used as sacrificial offerings to the Moon God. Slowly but surely, this led for the festival to evolve as a reunion for the whole family where they ate moon cakes and gazed at the full moon , a symbol for peace and prosperity.
‘The mooncake is not only a culinary creation, but a profound cultural tradition in China where mooncakes are eaten together with relatives or friends to express bonhomie and best wishes or simply gifted as sweet exchanges,’ explains Executive Chef, Anupam Banerjee. ‘Here, at The Ritz-Carlton, we hope to instill a sense of warm familial bonding between guests at this time, over a mooncake or two’.
