NUSA DUA – June 10, 2016 – In celebration of the annual Bali Kite Festival between July and August, The Ritz-Carlton, Bali presents guests with an opportunity to become immersed in the local Balinese culture with its Balinese Kite Experience. A true highlight on Bali’s calendar, this yearly tradition allows families to embark on an adventure that brings local Balinese customs to life. This imaginative experience is especially suited to younger guests, offering enthralling activities amongst the resort's picturesque coastal setting.

The Bali Kite Festival originally started as a seasonal farming festival using kites to take offerings and prayers to the divinities, thanking them for the abundant crops and harvests. Today, the colorful festival welcomes hundreds of competing kite troupes from all around the island to steer their traditional kites, in addition to international teams with modern kites in various styles and sizes. Though religion still plays an integral part in the festival for many, the Bali Kites Festival has evolved into a three-day event featuring music and entertainment by gamelan troops, a traditional Balinese music ensemble, and welcoming hundreds of spectators. Guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Bali have the unique opportunity to join in the celebrations with this newly launched experience.

Under the expertise of the resort’s specialists, who tapped a local expert to create this program, families at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali are given the materials and framework needed to create their own custom kite. Together, parents and children can bond over creating their masterpiece, while also writing personal wishes on the tail of the kite as the locals do at the festival. Held on the resort’s pristine white-sand beaches, families can then watch their children pilot kites in the sky while dressed in traditional Balinese attire. Additionally, as a notable tribute, a selection of the kites will be displayed as a special art exhibit at the resort. Complementing the experience, families will have exclusive access to the Bali Kite Festival in nearby Sanur and witness firsthand the aerial art show, making the experience all the more inspiring.

The Balinese Kite Experience is available until October 2016. For more information on the resort’s guest activities, visit www.ritzcarlton.com/bali and join the conversation with #RCMemories.
