As the season changes to the verdant splendor of the Kyoto summer, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is pleased to announce a new Afternoon Tea Collaboration between the hotel’s in-house patissier boutique, the world-famous Pierre Hermé Paris, and long-revered Kyoto pottery studio Kashogama, available from June 22nd to September 30th, 2017.
Kashogama, one of Kyoto’s most renowned pottery studios, has long been at the forefront of developing kyoyaki-style pottery - a type of pottery that has been developed over time in parallel with the aesthetics of Japanese tea ceremony. For this special Afternoon Tea Collaboration, Kashogama’s owner Mr. Kasho Morioka has collaborated with the patissier of the Pierre Hermé Paris Boutique at The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto, Mr. Dumane Regis, to design a new range of original Kashogama tea ware.
Mr. Morioka and Mr. Regis’s chosen design for the original range of tea wear is based on the Japanese concept of wa, or “harmony”, and also takes the interior design of The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto’s Lobby Lounge into consideration. The range features a tou, or “tower”, based on the design of a three-tier pagoda, and a plate known as ryu. The tower is made of Japanese cypress wood and is designed to accommodate three different sizes of plate. Furthermore, Kashogama has designed every aspect of the tea ware range, including its weight, size and handles, to be as ergonomic and easy to use for guests and the Ladies and Gentlemen of the The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto alike.
Pierre Hermé Paris is famous for its intricately-crafted desserts that contain complex, multilayered flavors that betray their deceptively uncomplicated appearances. For this special Afternoon Tea Collaboration, Pierre Hermé Paris has devised an original menu of sumptuous treats, including a foie gras parfait with American cherry compote and Shiraz jelly, sandwiches filled with grilled basil chicken and vegetables, Pierre Hermé Paris’s exclusive Ispahan cake, as well as scones, cakes and tarts made with Pierre Hermé Paris’s original Satine flavor of orange, passion fruit and cream.
Through this Afternoon Tea Collaboration, the Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is proud to offer guests a refined afternoon tea experience that combines the traditional Kyoto-style pottery designs of Kashogama with the modern, French aesthetics of Pierre Hermé Paris’s exceptional desserts, creating a beautiful East-West aesthetic, echoing the concept of The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto itself.
