KYOTO, JAPAN, July 3rd, 2017: The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is pleased to announce the launch of its “Enjoy The Summer” accommodation plan, available from June to September 30th, 2017. With this limited-period plan, the hotel is offering a 10% discount off regular rates of accommodation, and includes complimentary breakfast, allowing guests to make the most of the many traditional Japanese events taking place in Kyoto throughout the summer, while enjoying the fine hospitality that The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto has come to be known for.
For Japanese people, the summer is a time for festivals and fireworks, as people across the country put on their traditional yukata summer robes and join in the fun. As the cultural capital of Japan, Kyoto is home to some of the biggest and best traditional festivals, many of which take place just minutes away from The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto. Guests staying during July will notice the festival atmosphere as soon as they step outside the hotel, as Kyoto’s famous Gion Matsuri (Gion Festival) begins on July 1st and continues until the end of the month. The highlight of the festival is the yamaboko junko float parade which passes through Kyoto City Hall located just a 5-minute walk away from The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto. The festivities continue into August, when the Daimonji Gozan Okuribi, also known as the Daimonji Bonfire, takes place annually on August 16th. This festival is held to see off the souls of ancestors who, according to traditional beliefs, come to visit during the summer, and features gigantic Chinese characters (and other motifs) made from fires built on the mountain slopes surrounding the city.
In fact, many guests staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto this summer won’t even need to leave the comfort of their guest rooms in order to view the festivities outside. The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto, boasts approx. 70 guest rooms, including both luxury rooms and suites, that face out onto the Kamogawa river, providing staying guests with a glimpse of the Daimonji Gozan Okuribi festival taking place on the surrounding mountains. In particular, Suite TSUKIMI boasts a beautiful terrace featuring a private Japanese garden, and makes the perfect, most intimate venue for viewing the Okuribi festival.
Finally, one of the most magical features of the Kyoto summer is the presence of fireflies at dusk at the Misosogi River which flows just outside The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto. Guests staying at the hotel towards the end of June are recommended to go out and enjoy the enchanting sight of the fireflies, as Japanese nobles have done since the Heian era.
