KYOTO, JAPAN, August 11th, 2017:  The Gozan no Okuribi festival is one of the main highlights of the Kyoto summer.  To celebrate this long-running traditional event, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is pleased to announce a special dinner course and stay plan for guests staying at the hotel between August 11th and 16th, 2017, when the festival takes place.

Each year many local Kyoto people write down their wishes on pieces of wood known as gomaki, which are sent to the mountains surrounding the city on August 15th and 16th, to be burned as part of the Daimonji Gozan no Okuribi festival, also known as the Daimonji Bonfire.  The fires created from burning the gomaki are formed to resemble gigantic Chinese characters (and other motifs) and continue to amaze and fascinate visitors year after year.  Guests staying at The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto can also take part in the experience by making their own gomaki at Ginkakuji Temple, the closest temple involved in the festival, approximately 30 minutes from the hotel by bus.  For those looking to walk the distance, the route to the temple on foot is also one of The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto’s recommended hiking activities.

To celebrate this long-running traditional event, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is offering a special “Daimonji” Dinner Course, created by Japanese Restaurant Mizuki’s  Executive Chef Masahiko Miura and served with a glass of champagne.  The meal is served in gorgeous lacquerware boxes, featuring an appetizer of   gingko nuts, sesame tofu and dashi soup, a main dish full of rich, seasonal produce from the ocean and mountains including grilled eel, sashimi, grilled vegetable dengaku.  Guests are then served sushi and miso soup to finish.

In addition, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is offering a stay plan that allows guests to enjoy the “Daimonji” Dinner Course in ultimate style – in the guest room of their choice while watching the  Gozan no Okuribi festival.  This unforgettable experience is then followed the next morning with either an American-style breakfast featuring freshly baked croissants from the world-famous Pierre Hermé Paris, herb chicken and eggs, or  Japanese “Asage on Mizukizen” breakfast featuring a range specially-selected seasonal ingredients.

The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto welcomes guests to come and enjoy the special Gozan no Okuribi bonfire experience in ultimate comfort and style.
