KYOTO, JAPAN, April 1, 2017: Kyoto, the former capital of Japan for over a millennium, carries a reputation as the country’s most beautiful city thanks to its traditional gardens and architecture. With exquisitely crafted Japanese gardens and a bonsai expert master gardener on-site, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto offers guests the chance to get in touch with over a thousand years of Japanese art and tradition.

This summer, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is offering a Kyoto Experience Package from June 1st to August 31st, inviting guests to experience traditional Japanese activities, with the option of staying in a special guest room that boasts its own private Japanese garden. Guests can choose from either a “Your Own Zen Garden” activity, in which our master gardener will teach you about the ancient Japanese art of bonsai, or “Kimono Experience”, in which guests are invited to dress in an authentic traditional kimono of their choosing and receive professional hair and make-up styling, after which they are free to explore the sights of Kyoto in traditional dress.

Japanese people have been inspired to cultivate small gardens that reflect the beauty of nature for over a thousand years. The Japanese garden perfectly encapsulates the classic Japanese aesthetic of expressing appreciation for the changing seasons. The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto is home to many authentic Japanese gardens in the hotel’s public spaces and guest rooms, allowing every guest to feel the beauty of traditional Japanese aesthetics. As part of the Kyoto Experience package, guests can choose from a range of rooms, including 13 Deluxe Garden rooms and 4 Garden Terrace Suites which are all designed to provide guests with private views of a Japanese garden.

The 13 available Deluxe Garden rooms face out onto a Japanese garden that consists of a bed of white sand and stones, known as karesansui. This renowned style of Japanese garden symbolizes nature without water and is representative of the concept of wabi sabi - a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Each of the 4 Garden Terrace Suite rooms overlooks the 36 mountains of Kyoto’s famous Higashiyama district, appearing like a beautiful folding screen across the skyline. These elegant suites boast king size beds, a separate living room and private terraces that overlook a private Japanese garden. This package also comes with a choice of American-style or Japanese-style breakfast, prepared by on-site Japanese restaurant Mizuki.
