Gambero Rosso Honours Splendido, The Ritz-Carlton Osaka, as “ 2017 Best Italian Restaurant in Osaka” Award, with the First E-Book of ‘Top Italian Restaurants in the World’
OSAKA, JAPAN, December 2, 2016: Splendido at the Ritz-Carlton, Osaka won the “ The best Italian Restaurant in Osaka” of “Top Italian Restaurants in the World” on November 14th, 2016.
The awards are sponsored by Gambero Rosso, an Italian food and wine magazine and publishing group founded in 1986. The 'Ristoranti d'Italia' guide, first published in 1990, introduces the best Italian restaurants in Italy.
“Top Italian Restaurants in the World” is the first digital publication to pay homage to the many restaurateurs who dedicate every day to promoting Italyʼs wine and food heritage abroad. The guide takes into account restaurants, pizzerias and wine bars dedicated to Italian food and wine culture, and the best restaurants in each major city around the world are honored during the 40 annual events organized by Gambero Rosso in its journey around the globe. For the awards, Italian restaurants in over 30 nations were evaluated, by Gambero Rosso’s experts, mostly made up of Italians, as well as few locals from each region that the publication visits.
Splendido, the popular Italian restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, is designed to recreate the feeling of a Tuscany-designed villa with four sections, and offers classic Italian cuisine with contemporary presentation.
The menu created by Chef Oriana Tirabassi, who joined The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka in 2014, is authentic classic Italian cuisine with a contemporary accent. With a pizza oven in the open kitchen, the menu showcases a wide range of Naples-style pizzas.
Oriana is a highly decorated chef, having received many accolades over the years. She was the first woman in the world to win the Pizza World Championship in 1994 in Las Vegas.
Oriana was born in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, a famous beach resort and fishing harbor facing the Adriatic sea. She was originally a fashion designer before she donned the apron in a bid to pursue her passion for food. However, before that, her journey in the culinary world started at a very early age thanks to her grandmother and entire family who were involved in the food catering business. She started her career as the head chef and owner of a restaurant in Ascoli Piceno province in 1986, and her talents as a restaurant consultant have led over 240 restaurants in Italy, Germany and Hong Kong to success. Since 2008, Oriana has spread her wings and worked as an Italian cuisine chef in many five star hotels around the world, such as Mezzo Mezzo at JW Marriott Hotel in India, Mumbai, Rosso at Shangri-La Hotel, Indonesia, Jakarta, Spasso Restaurant and Bar 494 at Erawan Grand Hyatt Bangkok in Thailand, Bangkok.
Thanks to her elite culinary skills, she has been selected to prepare and serve dishes for many high-profile guests including the President of the United States, members of various Asian royal families, and other VIP guests.
