The resort, which is dedicated to maintaining the environment and capturing the spirit of the islands, offers groups a customizable give-back experience suited to their individual needs as they enjoy the tropical surroundings and immerse themselves in the destination. From cleaning local beaches and planting trees, to learning about the local culture and eco-systems through the on-property Ambassadors of the Environment Program, the give-back opportunities are endless and readily available for guests to book right at their fingertips.
As a resort, one of The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s main passion points is to authentically showcase the native island and culture to its travelers. It seeks to not only provide a rich cultural experience for its guests, but to also get them acquainted with the destination in a more meaningful way – giving back. This volunteering package will be tailored based on the interests and goals of each group and developed by The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s very own Cultural Advisor, Clifford Nae’ole. As a native Hawaiian and the first cultural advisor for The Ritz-Carlton brand, Clifford has strong ties to the local charities and will work closely with non-profits and the groups to determine what area of the island they would like to benefit. Not only does The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s give-back program benefit the local community, but it also affects how the community reacts back to the resort and instills a positive outlook on the guests who are visiting their home.

From working to improve the fragile coral reef ecosystems to helping local community centers and schools, the five-diamond resort wants groups to leave having deeper connections with both themselves and their peers. In addition to volunteering with local groups, the give-back program includes educational and awareness adventures, such as learning about the marine life while snorkeling or about the importance of the natural vegetation through planting Koa seeds. If groups want to go the extra mile, they are able to donate to local charities directly as well.
Earlier this summer, an enterprise software company in Silicon Valley held its corporate retreat at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and took part in the community service program. Through this experience, employees strengthened their camaraderie and teamwork skills by participating in service opportunities such as planting native foliage in Kamehameha iki park, installing technology to help educate people about the discovery of the Hawaiian Islands, and improving local community centers and schools. Understanding that big things have small beginnings, the team was able to appreciate the fruits of their labor while bonding on a deeper level and enjoying the beautiful locale.
