Luxury Maui Resort Welcomes Notable Health & Wellness Practitioners to Inspire Guests and Locals During Exclusive Weekend of Events

Embracing the ideals of ancient Hawaiian healing and the wellness culture that the island of Maui embodies, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua is proud to host its 4th annual Wellness Weekend taking place throughout the property September 16-18, 2016.  Officially named “E Malama Kou Kino,” which translates to “care for your body” in the native Hawaiian language, this three-day experience will kick off the resort’s annual Wellness Season which will run through the fall and winter months.

During the Wellness Weekend, guests and locals alike will experience the rich Hawaiian culture with the resort's very own Cultural Advisor, Clifford Naeole, partake in some of the best ocean activities Hawaii has to offer through the resort's Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment program, and participate in unique fitness classes and nutrition seminars led by a talented and well-respected group of experts. Participants can enjoy a wealth of activities ranging from mindful ocean meditation and full moon yoga, to ocean exploration and Hawaiian culture education.

  • E ala E Ceremonies at Honokahua Beach – Join cultural practitioners for an invigorating ceremony guaranteed to rejuvenate the body and spirit. Chants are offered by all to the rising sun. Attendees should bring swim wear and towels.
  • Ritz Blitz HIIT Class with David Clawson and Phillip Levi – Guests should bring their strength, stability, and endurance for this hour-long interval-based challenge aimed at getting the feet moving and the heart pumping.
  • Lahaina CrossFit - UNLOADED – Join us for a great low impact warm up, stretching, learning new movements that will be scaled to your level, and a great WOD to get in a good sweat to start the day! We will also finish with a warm down and stretching session before you take a dip in the ocean or the pool. All fitness levels are welcome!
  • How to Get Rid of Sugar Cravings with Anne Mauney – Healthy eating made simple! In this session, Registered Dietitian Anne Mauney will share the 3 biggest culprits for why your sweet tooth is raging - and how to prevent it. She will also share a simple blueprint for building satisfying meals and snacks.

  • Core Control with David Clawson and Phillip Levi – This hour-long class begins with 15-minutes of active stretching to prime the body for optimal movement; followed by 30-minutes of core-focused training; ending with 15-minutes of active recovery.
  • Fit 2 Hit with Jason Purcell – “Fit 2 Hit” Tennis class focuses on fun and fitness incorporating the functional moves and swing shapes to get the most out the experience and keep guests coming back to this great lifelong sport.
  • Accessing the Power of Mana for Health, Prosperity and Balance  – Kumu Ramsay Taum  - Come learn to access and direct MANA, the life force that is in and around us.  Kumu Lua Ramsay Taum will guide us through exercises and movements to experience MANA for improved health, happiness and physical rebalancing.
  • Kapalua Golf Academy Demo Day – Demo Day featuring Callaway and TaylorMade at the Kapalua Academy. All activities are complimentary and open to the public. Featuring Special Guest: “The Block” . Local Maui Fitness Facility & Personal Training studio. Anthony Bianucci (Owner & Head Trainer, NASM Certified &ISSA Certified).
  • Full Moon Yoga – Suitable for all levels, this class features a combination of slow flow, restorative postures, and meditation to help guests connect more fully with nature's cycles and their own internal rhythms. The full moon is a time of swelling tides, heightened emotions, and completion of tasks and intentions. A calm mind and body are ideal for receiving its intense positive energy and preparing for the next cycle of waning (decreasing), new moon (beginning), and waxing (increasing).

  • Ho'oikaika e Na Koa – Kumu Ramsay Taum – To be successful at protecting and defending their communities, Na Koa (Hawaiian Warriors) needed to be intelligent, strong, flexible, resilient and responsive.  Join Kumu Lua Ramsay Taum for special session that explores the movements, gestures and techniques that helped Lua warriors of ancient Hawai'i to prevail on the battle field of daily life.
  • Stretch Your Brain, Balance Your Body: A Look at Mobility with Phillip Levi – Creating balanced extensibility throughout the musculoskeletal system is important for a happy, healthy life. This discussion will explain the importance of mobility and cover how to classify and correct some common imbalances found in each and every one of us.
  • Nutrition for Runners with Anne Mauney –  Registered Dietitian and marathoner Anne Mauney will share 5 common nutrition mistakes made by runners - and how to avoid them. She'll also share samples of her favorite homemade lemon sports drink!
