KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – May 2, 2017 – Following the overwhelming success of Smile Asia Week in 2016, The Ritz-Carlton hotels of Asia Pacific continues its collaboration with Smile Asia, a global alliance of independent charities that work together to treat children with facial deformities such as cleft lips and cleft palates. The regional efforts by the hotels have seen funds raised beyond $1 million since the programme’s inception three years ago.
Every year, more than 10,000 Ladies and Gentlemen from The Ritz-Carlton hotels of Asia Pacific across 24 properties in 10 countries and territories specially craft gourmet cakes in support of Smile Asia Week. Since 2014, more than 40,000 cakes have been sold. This contributed to over 1,500 life-changing surgeries.
In conjunction with the fourth annual Smile Asia Week from May 8 - 14, The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur will be selling a special ‘Make Me Smile’ cake, a luscious creation that includes Valrhona chocolate with rich orange accents, combining the much-loved classic flavours. Available for sale at The Patisserie on Level One of the hotel, this cake for a good cause is the perfect gift for celebrations and special occasions such as Mother’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays.
Smile Asia organises activities across 20 countries and has delivered over 60,000 surgeries. Annually, over 100,000 children in Asia are born with cleft lip or cleft palate and do not have proper access to treatment that will dramatically change their lives. The seven founding charities of Smile Asia specialise in the delivery of care to children with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. They also seek to create sustainable programmes that empower local communities while respecting local country processes.
Priced at MYR 75 nett per cake, all proceeds will go towards the medical charity to fund the performance of 500 life-changing surgeries.
