Iconic resort celebrates significant milestone

CANCUN, QUINTANA ROO – (NOV. 19 2015) – The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun proudly announced today that it has been recognized for the twentieth consecutive year with the prestigious Five Diamond distinction from the American Automobile Association (AAA). The iconic, luxury resort celebrated the milestone during a special ceremony held earlier this week bringing together former leaders of the hotel including Mr. Jorge Gonzales, Mr. Luis Marco and Mr. Hermann Elger, along with tenured Ladies and Gentleman and longtime, highly valued guests.

“We are thrilled to join together with former leaders, employees and guests to celebrate this significant achievement - our twentieth year receiving this prestigious, world renowned AAA distinction,” said David Cayuela, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun. “The exceptional quality of service which our Ladies and Gentlemen provide year after year is the primary reason our resort receives such a significant honor.”

The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun first opened its doors in 1993 and over time has become one of Mexico’s most beloved, iconic and well known luxury resorts. Along with former leaders, this week’s ceremony also recognized more than fifty Ladies and Gentleman who have been with the hotel for twenty or more years. “We are thrilled and humbled by what our employees here have collectively helped us achieve over the past two decades,” said Mr. Cayuela.

Each year, American Automobile Association (AAA) reviews more than 28,000 hotels with just one quarter percent receiving the Five Diamond honor. The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun is among only twenty select hotels from around the world that have received the award for twenty years or more. In addition to the hotel, it is also the only Five Diamond award winner to receive triple honors from the association for its two restaurants, The Club Grill and Fantino, in addition to the overall resort distinction.

Continuing a 79-year tradition, AAA’s professionally trained inspectors use published guidelines to conduct unannounced hotel and restaurant evaluations, assigning approved establishments a rating of One to Five AAA Diamonds. Properties identified by AAA as potential candidates for the Five Diamond Rating undergo multiple evaluations and a final decision by a panel of experts. With a far greater inventory than any other rating entity, AAA’s rating system covers the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
