NEW ORLEANS, La. - When it opened on legendary Canal Street October 6, 2000, The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans brought new life to a pair of architectural landmarks, the Maison Blanche and Kress buildings. In concert with the hotel’s grand opening, the front page of the daily newspaper read “Canal’s Crown Jewel” and it retains that title today.

In preparation of opening, the buildings underwent a $250 million restoration effort to preserve the turn-of-the-century design elements (1909 and 1910 respectively). The former shopping emporium was transformed into the first luxury hotel to open on world famous Canal Street. The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans features 527 rooms, 35,000 square feet of meeting space, a 25,000 square foot day spa and fitness center, one restaurant and one lounge on the edge of the French Quarter. The hotel was closed for fifteen months (August 2005 – December 2006) as a result of the effects of Hurricane Katrina, but the hotel’s owners spared no expense to revitalize the property (façade, basement, first floor, public space, meeting space, and outlets), ensuring that it would once again open its grand doors to visitors from around the world. This summer (2011), the hotel will undergo a $9 million room renovation; this is the first time that the rooms have been renovated since opening in 2000.

The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans offers a very unique sense of place. When you step inside the doors, you know that you are in New Orleans. The hotel’s artwork collection is valued at over $3.5 million and was purchased at estate sales and auctions throughout the State. The reception desks and elevator cabs are made of cypress, a tree indigenous to the South. Guest rooms have a classic, but bold charm, much like the people of this world class city. The hotel’s courtyard is reminiscent of those found in the adjacent French Quarter with lush foliage, a fountain, gazebo, and ample room to relax and soak in the sunshine. Culinary dishes feature crawfish, redfish, shrimp and produce from the nearby Farmer’s Market. Classic cocktails are always on the menu, making it hard to choose between a Sidecar, Brandy Milk Punch, Sazerac or Ramos Gin Fizz on any given night. Spa services range from a Café au Lait Detoxifying Massage to a Marie Laveau Voodoo Love Massage and Bath. Jazz fills the air every weekend thanks to the hotel’s headline entertainer and Grammy-nominated artist, Jeremy Davenport.

Join us at The Ritz-Carlton, New Orleans to experience a blend of Southern hospitality and Ritz-Carlton service.
