MUSCAT, Oman – June 17, 2016 – This Summer, Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel welcomes a new promotion of students as part of the Fast Track to Leadership Programme.

Successfully launched in 2013 under the gracious patronage of Her Excellency Maitha Al Mahrouqi, Undersecretary, Ministry of Tourism, the Al Bustan Palace Hospitality Academy combines several initiatives aimed at developing talents within the hotel industry. With the academy, the luxury palace strengthens its commitment to its Omani workforce and reaffirms the hotel’s goal towards developing talent within the industry, reaching for hospitality excellence.

The training and development programmes in place at Al Bustan Palace include The Culinary Academy, Omani Leadership Development, Language & IT, The Ritz-Carlton Supervisory Skills Programme and Marriott Voyage Global Leadership Programme, designed for recent university graduates.

Omani Leadership Development enrolled eleven high-potential Omani Ladies and Gentlemen, selected for an 11-month leadership course. At the completion of the programme, the Ladies and Gentlemen will be on course to assume positions of responsibility within the company.

The selected employees have different profiles varying from Finance, Sales, Operations and Culinary departments, all of them with different background and experiences, but sharing some common traits: all of them are Omanis, occupying supervisor positions and with ambition and potential to become tomorrow’s leaders in hospitality. Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, gives them the opportunity to grow and build their career path with this intense programme taking place during their duty hours, throughout the year. The curriculum includes instructor-led training, individual and team projects designed to develop strategic thinking and team work, written assignments and cross-exposure in another country during a familiarization trip in one ninety properties from The Ritz-Carlton around the world.

Furthermore, Al Bustan Palace’s Omanisation commitment is strengthened by the Voyage Leadership Programme, offering job prospects across the portfolio of the brands and hotels under Marriott International. The Voyage Leadership Programme, an ongoing 18-month learning course, has consistently attracted recent graduates of Hospitality and Tourisms Management. The program recently onboarded four new graduates.

Another aspect of the Al Bustan Palace Hospitality Academy is the Culinary Academy, which is being offered through the structured selection process established in partnership with National Hospitality Institute (NHI). The Culinary Course has been designed to provide 13 culinary students with a solid grounding in craft skills covering food preparation, cooking, hygiene, health and safety. On completing the training, students will receive certificates and an opportunity to grow within the company.

Muna Al Riyami, Learning and Development Manager, supervises the Al Bustan Palace Hospitality Academy, providing the students with an inspiring vision to their future. Muna’s role is vital in implementing learning strategies and providing training opportunities in alignment to the personal development plans of the Ladies and Gentlemen. She personally designed the Omani Leadership Development programme based on her experience and interactions with the current workforce at Al Bustan Palace. Armed with a solid background herself, Muna Al Riyami has developed a passion for training and developing individuals, in alignment with the Sultanate’s tourism expansion.  “Our mission is to support the development of the next generation and inspire young Omani hoteliers. We are committed to supporting our country’s tourism growth in the exciting plans initiated by the Ministry of Tourism & His Majesty in view of 2020” , she commented.

In line with this long-term commitment to grow and develop hospitality talents, Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel, continues to build bridges with the community and engage with  ocal schools through the Succeed Through Service programme. This hands-on youth engagement curriculum is part of Community Footprints, The Ritz-Carlton’s corporate social responsibility.  Succeed Through Service brings students to the Ritz-Carlton hotels and takes our employees into the classrooms to share the importance of social skills; healthy eating habits and how to safely handle food; group presentation skills; and the value of teamwork.
