SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO (JULY 31, 2017) – Jacqueline Volkart, general manager at The Ritz-Carlton, San Juan has been appointed to lead the Puerto Rico Business Council, first sub council of the Marriott Caribbean Business Councils. With over 20 years of brand experience, Volkart’ s role as chairwoman adds invaluable significance to the recently established committee.
The Puerto Rico Business Council founding and Volkart’ s appointment came after Marriott International completed the acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts worldwide, creating the world’s largest hotel company and bringing together 14 leading properties in Puerto Rico representing a variety of Marriott brands, former Starwood hotels and franchisees.
“The Puerto Rico Business Council gives us a great opportunity to integrate our new brands and acquisitions into the greater Marriott family of brands. I am really excited about this new Council,” expressed Volkart.
Spearheaded by Volkart and a board of directors comprised mainly by general managers, the Puerto Rico Business Council has led various community service projects, supported youth engagement initiatives and human rights training, engaged in sustainable facility programs, and advocated for local government affairs that impact the hotel industry by leveraging the Marriott name in the community.
“We are in the forefront of all legislation within the island’s government affairs, our role is to make sure our voice is heard and discuss about legislative issues that affect our market,” said Volkart. “So far we have done tremendous amount of work enhancing the community and developed initiatives to support the island’s economic growth,” she added.
The new chairwoman is expected to serve for a minimum of two years and no more than five years. Volkart will function as the communication liaison between the market and Marriott International.
