Tenerife – November, 2015 – The Ritz-Carlton, Abama has fast become the bastion of chic on the Canary Island of Tenerife, providing a refined retreat with impeccable service and indulgent experiences to discerning travellers. As the resort approaches its 10th anniversary, Head Concierge xxxxx shares his/her top 10 must-tries.
Celestial Michelin Picnic – take to the resort’s secluded beach with our expert astronomer for a jaw-dropping exploration of the stars, galaxies, moons, asteroids and comets. Tenerife is one of the world’s very few ‘clear-skies’ destinations, which attracts leading physicists including Stephen Hawking. All this is combined with an eight course Champagne Michelin picnic created by seven Michelin star Martin Berasategui from our M.B. kitchen.
Treats on Ten - guests staying in our new Club Rooms on the tenth floor of our Citadel building can hunker down in our Ritz-Club lounge for unlimited treats. We recommend reclining on the terrace with a bucket of candy-coloured macaroons and Champagne on ice. The panoramic volcanic vistas aren’t bad too!
Adults Only - The adult-only Tagor’ villas, can be found nestled within the most tranquil area of the resort. The romantic bolt-holes are inspired by the aboriginal Guanche people of the Canary Islands who cherished adult seclusion, creating peaceful areas set apart from their villages, where the elders of the tribe would meet to seek enlightenment and counsel. This area was named “Tagoror”. Try the butler service at The Tagor’ pools and Michelin in-room dining service exclusive to the villas.
One for Green-Fingers – The Ritz-Carlton, Abama started with its gardens, designed and nurtured before the resort was built across the 160 hectare private estate. This unique collection of fauna including herb gardens, tropical plants, palms and fruit bearing trees has been meticulously cultivated to survive the resort’s volcanic terrain. Our in-house botanist Aleida Hernandez leads a therapeutic tour, a journey of colour, fragrance and taste incorporating the kitchen garden and palm trails.
‘False Truffles’ at M.B. – a show-stopping work of art by the hands of seven-star Michelin chef Martin Berasategui at our M.B. restaurant. A magical dish demonstrating Berasategui’s imaginative and technical culinary process. This is a real treat not only for the palette but for the mind too!
Canarian Mojito - The banana fuelled house cocktail, exclusive to The Ritz-Carlton, Abama,is served with a flamboyant garnish of carved banana skins - A playful sundowner! We recommend this is enjoyed at the beach to close a long lazy day.
Cousteau for Kids – we’re a perfect getaway for families and our kids club ‘Ritz-Kids’ offers a charming programme co-created with explorer and environmentalist, Jean-Michel Cousteau and his Ocean Futures Society. Inspired by the passion, campaigns and research of Cousteau and his family legacy, Ritz Kids offers young guests a fun, engaging and immersive experience to open their eyes to the wonders of the natural world encouraging them to take steps to protect it.
A Taste of 1940’s Havana - pop to our rum bar, Cubanika, and try the ‘Abama Luxury’ house cigar, a tobacco harvested with Montealto®, the oldest cigar factory in the Canaries. ‘Abama Luxury’ is made from the highest quality leaf from Montealto, harvested in 2012 and rolled in the bar by Cubanika’s very own Cigar Sommelier.
Michelin Sushi – we are lucky enough to have one of the world’s best sushi restaurants from Madrid-based Ricardo Sanz. Our incredibleCanarian chef Daniel Franco won a Michelin star for his culinary excellence in 2012, which we’ve proudly retained. The Sashimi of Alfonsiño is pure theatre, a stunning whole fish on the bone, served on stingray skin coated boards and ice.
Volcanic Spa – our signature spa ritual includes exfoliation with volcanic rocks and milk body masks of endemic banana. The Ritz-Carlton, Abama, Earth, Wind & Fire is an indulgent treatment of massage therapies with truly Canarian roots.
