- Michelin Dining at the 19th Hole -
Tenerife – December, 2017, The Ritz-Carlton, Abama has become an all-time favourite with golfers looking for a world-class course. Set in year-round balmy climates and raising the stakes for golfing epicures, the five-star resort also offers an elite gourmet treat at the 19th hole! A 2018 bucket-list experience combines a course known as “the Augusta of Europe”, a premium golf academy and one of the globe‟s finest Japanese restaurants, the Michelin-starred Kabuki, at the course club house.
Located on the smooth slopes of the Pico del Teide volcano, the highest point in Spain, the 72-par, 18-hole golf course, designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas along with Abama‟s architect Melvin Villarroel, both challenges professionals and offers ample opportunities for beginners and golf lovers of all levels.
Featuring unbeatable views of the Atlantic Sea and undulating greens, the course is made up of a diverse terrain that ranges from 78 to 315 metres above sea level, and is 6,232 metres in length. Set against an inspiring natural backdrop, players will enjoy a challenging tee-off surrounded by an incredible 25,000 trees and tropical plants, 22 lakes, waterfalls and sandy enclaves along the way.
For the ultimate taste buzz, the course at The Ritz-Carlton, Abama doesn‟t miss out on the resort‟s exceptional gastro hallmark. At the 19th hole players will find a chic eastern retreat, home to the Canarian outpost of Madrid‟s Kabuki restaurant from chef Ricardo Sanz. With Chef David Rivero now at the helm, the resort's destination restaurant won its first Michelin star for culinary excellence in 2012, which is proudly retained.
Players can enjoy an award-winning journey of Japanese fusion from this slick restaurant overlooking the course and ocean, or from the bar enjoying the very best house sushi and sashimi, while watching the sushi artists at work. One to try - the Sashimi of Alfonsiño is pure theatre, a stunning whole fish on the bone, served on stingray skin coated boards and ice. For the end of the game, Kabuki Abama‟s „Wine Art‟ experience sees a sake pairing journey with 30 sake‟s from Junmai, Daiginjo to Koshu paired with dishes, served both hot and cold by the restaurant‟s sake sommelier.
Golfers looking to sharpen their swing can take to the Golf Academy. Lead by the British PGA Mark Pursey, the pioneering centre has established international prestige and offers learning programmes suitable to all levels and tailored to players‟ age, capabilities, handicaps and goals. With a choice of private one-on-one coaching or group lessons, the academy can host every type of player from children through to experienced golfers looking to hone their skills and offers exceptional practice facilities which include; a five-hectare driving range with a par-3, three-hole practice ground, putting green for beginners, swing analysis and a timetable of classes for all levels.
