The Magnificent Mile Hotel Sets A New Luxury Standard With The Unveiling of Refashioned Lobbies, Ballrooms and Social Venues
CHICAGO (JULY 31, 2017) – Inspired by its iconic address that unites city, lake and sky, today the property announces the multi-million dollar revitalization. The highly anticipated refashioning takes cues from Chicago’s bold architecture and modern design throughout its lobbies, culinary destinations and social spaces — furthering The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago as a beacon in the city of Chicago.
“Every venue and detail embraces the grandeur of Chicago, recapturing our heritage with approachable luxury, landmark service and community soul,” said Peter Simoncelli, general manager, The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago. “The hotel is part of the fabric of the city, and will continue to set the standard for luxury in Chicago. It’s where legacy and vibrancy meet. On behalf of all of the Ladies and Gentlemen at The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago, I personally want to invite travelers and trailblazers from near and far to experience the property firsthand.”
Enlisting the San Francisco-based, award-winning design firm BAMO, The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago’s contemporary and majestic modern renovation revels in the city’s heritage of architecture, forward-thinking design and industrial innovation. The visual masterpiece showcases panoramic skyline views that serve as a focal point throughout the property, and are elevated by the permanent art collection that guides you through a narrative of the design philosophy.
“The creative re-design takes inspiration from the city, unveiling a true sense of place,” said Billy Quimby, principal of BAMO. “Throughout the entire property, we have connected design elements of the building's historic exterior and brought the inspiration and energy of Chicago inside. As a result, The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago sets the stage for a modern experience in the middle of the skyline.”
The vision and inspiration of the hotel thoughtfully weave the fabric of the city through each new space:
The focal point of the main lobby entrance is the Flying Wave, a stunning wave-like floating sculpture made from four types of hand-blown glass in blue tones reminiscent of Lake Michigan. The sculpture recasts its light throughout the day creating a transformative day-to-night setting. Overarching design elements and textures like the soaring 19 foot quarter figured American Walnut “fins” celebrate the verticality of the space while paying homage to the skyscrapers in the view beyond. Outlining the social hubs within the main lobby are sleek solar grey marble columns inspired by the exterior of the building, and shimmering metallic partitions creating structure and dimension throughout public areas. The design of the ground lobby entrance and main lobby on the 12th floor are a testament to Chicago’s modern architecture and industrial ingenuity.
More than 25,000 square feet of event space has been revitalized and now offers the largest luxury ballroom in Chicago. Contemporary in design and flexible in its layout, The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom and Grand Foyer total 14,000 square feet, and can host events for up to 600 guests. Boasting sweeping city views, the awe-inspiring ballroom is awash in metallic leafing and natural light, and its centerpiece—the opulent chandelier with 400,000 illuminating crystals—has been exquisitely restored to its original glory. An exciting new addition, the 3,500-square-foot St. Clair Ballroom, is the perfect space for mid-size meetings and weddings holding up to 220 guests.
The hotel introduces Torali, Italian - Steak, a modern Italian steakhouse concept located on the 12th floor. The contemporary Italian menu highlights handmade pastas, prime and dry-aged meats, seafood and Italian classics with an elevated twist. The adjacent Torali Bar—a warm, inviting space with a copper-clad facade and intimate lounge settees—echoes the locally driven, internationally inspired ethos of Torali with regional and Italian spirits, and innovative signature infusions. Offering a place for the community to “plug in,” The Café serves as a relaxed atmosphere by day, boasting specialty coffee from La Colombe, fresh squeezed juices, gourmet sandwiches, decadent desserts and pastries. By night, The Café transforms into a sophisticated setting to be enjoyed under the glistening skylights. The Rooftop at Torali showcases breathtaking city views and is ideal for light shareable plates and cocktails.
