Shanghai, ChinaApril, 2019 – Baba Au Rum, named after a French dessert and established in 2009, is a Rum & Cocktail bar located in the historical center of Athens, will run its pop-up in The Ritz Bar & Lounge at The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai for five nights from Tuesday, 16 April to Saturday, 20 April as part of the hotel’s Movers & Shakers guest bartending series.

With an extended list of both classic and contemporary cocktails and an unlimited back bar with more than 350 different labels of rum worldwide, and lots of Single Malts Whisky, Cognacs, Gins and Agave spirits, Baba Au Rum has become the best place for cocktail connoisseurs to taste quality cocktails blended with hand-selected spirits from all over the world. It is now a multi-awarded bar and was named as one of the world’s 50 best bars in 2013, 2016, 2017 and reached No.22 in 2018.

Athanasios Prounarou, the owner bartender of the bar is a great storyteller of cocktail cultures. Having spent a number of years behind the bar, Athanasios Prounarou delivers his philosophy to contextualize the drinking experience and is currently serving a series of The Avant Garde cocktails, influenced by futurism, modernism and conceptual art. This April, Athanasios Prounarou will be introducing five of their top notch cocktails for local cocktail aficionados at the Library in The Ritz Bar & Lounge, together with the well-known bartender of the bar Stergiopoulos Ilias. Be prepared to taste unique flavors that will travel you through the history of cocktail and its different cultures.

Baba Au Rum

Baba Au Rum's signature cocktail is a complex yet balanced umami daiquiri with vanilla, sweet sherry, oak, lime, basil and more botanical notes. Made with Bacardi Reserva 8 years old.

Conceptual Form

Vintage turns exotic with a fresh conceptual concoction of lemons, elderflower, a dash of Italian bitter liqueur and our re-discovered homemade Fassionola - a classic syrup of passion fruit, cherries and orange.


An elegant curious “whisky soda” drink created with Bacardi Dewar’s 12 years old, a hint of fresh Martinique island rhum, green apples, pears, shiso and a dried apricot develop. For the Avant Garders who look on the red carpet.

Buccaneers Negroni

This recipe has been rejuvenated with the addition of pineapple and rose in a blend of Caribbean rums to serve the most notoriously exotic Negroni found across the Seven Seas.
