Sintra – November, 2018 – Three of Portugal’s most famous Michelin-starred chefs will prepare an exciting evening of culinary excellence at Penha Longa Resort on November 7.

Connoisseurs of fine food are welcome to join the event that will see the resort’s Michelin-starred restaurant LAB by Sergi Arola host Joachim Koerper (Eleven) and João Rodrigues (Feitoria). Francisco Siopa, master chocolatier and Executive Pastry Chef at Penha Longa Resort will be preparing the dessert course.

Under the watchful eye of Chef Sergi each Michelin-starred chef will contribute to an exclusive menu of innovative dishes with fine wine pairings. The event has been organised as part of the ‘Stars Route’ (Rota das Estrelas) Portugal’s most prestigious culinary event. The route is a national festival dedicated exclusively to Michelin-starred restaurants and designed to showcase the country’s major players in haute cuisine.

The resort’s General Manager David Martinez said: “This is an unmissable opportunity to enjoy Michelin-starred excellence from some of finest restaurants in the country in one place—Penha Longa Resort. This certainly promises to be genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience for those who are passionate about culinary innovation.”

“Excellence of cuisine has always been an important reason to visit our resort since the Portuguese Royal Family used Penha Longa as a summer retreat in the 17th century. Being part of a festival such as the Stars Route builds on a wonderful tradition.”

LAB was awarded its first Michelin star in in 2016 with the Michelin Guide describing it as a “striking restaurant that brings the highly personalised cuisine of famous Spanish chef Sergi Arola to the Sintra region”. The guide also praised the restaurant’s ambience, open-view kitchen, ‘delightful’ glass-block 550-bottle wine cellar and its views of the golf course and 220 hectares of mountain nature reserve that surround the resort.

LAB offers three different tasting menus every month as well as à la carte options. Previous gourmet dishes have included guinea fowl, Peruvian aji and corn crumble, roasted monkfish loin and romesco crust, Osetra Caviar with potato foam and fois gras as well as veal sweetbread, pumpkin purée and spices. Desserts have featured blood orange sorbet with gold chocolate and vanilla soufflé and Tonka bean ice-cream. The restaurant also offers 550 wines from around the world, exclusive Cognac and Armagnac selections and a tea menu with 40 different varieties. A separate bar-lounge area with DJ serves the largest selection of premium vodkas in Portugal.

Chef Sergi has launched dining concepts in Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Verbier, Barcelona and Madrid and became an international culinary sensation and television personality after working at Ferran Adriá’s world famous El Bulli. Heading the kitchen at LAB is Chef Vladimir Veiga, who has gained inspiration from experience at Fortaleza do Guincho and Vila Joya, the first restaurant in Portugal to gain two Michelin stars.

Portugal is becoming increasingly important as a destination for lovers of fine food and in 2017 seven new ‘one star’ awards (including LAB) were made and two new ‘two stars’.

“At LAB we are obviously delighted to be at the forefront of such a culinary movement and we will continue to celebrate the excellence that ensures Portugal continues to be the world’s most exciting new culinary destination,” said David Martinez.
