PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 22, 2018) – The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia will go dark for one hour on March 24 to shine a light on climate action in support of Earth Hour 2018. The hotel will join millions around the world in turning off its lights at 8:30 p.m. local time to illuminate a powerful message about environmental awareness and action. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) created the annual global environmental awareness event 11 years ago to emphasize the threat of climate change.

The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia will dim and turn off non-essential interior and exterior lighting; provide a special turn-down service with flower seed packets to inspire the Serve 360 message informing guests about Earth Hour observances; Aqimero Restaurant will continue to serve Latin inspired dishes using natural resources, including their wood burning grill and coal smoking stove and offer a new glowing signature cocktail named, “Lights Out.” The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia will also participate in Marriott International’s drive to raise funds for WWF and locally help make Philadelphia the “City of Arborly Love”, with a donation of 25 trees to TreePhilly – a program of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, to enhance Philadelphia’s urban landscape with more trees. TreePhilly helps the local community connect with the resources they need to plant and care for their own urban forests.

“It’s a privilege for us to support Earth Hour because it echoes Marriott International’s global focus on the environment” said Denise Naguib, Vice President of Sustainability and Supplier Diversity. “Today, business plays a critical role in taking on our world’s most pressing social and environmental issues, including climate change. Earth Hour reflects a philosophy we aim to practice year-round through our sustainability & social impact platform, Serve 360.”
